Square Connect
Square is a commerce platform for managing products, variations, prices, inventory, and locations. Square Connect links a DevDeck project to one Square account and one active Square Location, so the project's storefront can use Square as its source of truth for catalog and inventory data.
Checkout and orders are outside this connection
Square Connect manages catalog and inventory only. It does not provide payment, settlement, or order features. Connect Stripe separately when the project needs checkout and orders.
Connect Square in DevDeck
- Open the project in DevDeck.
- In Project Studio, select Configure → Connections.
- Under Commerce, find Commerce operations, powered by Square, and select Connect.
- In the confirmation dialog, select Continue to Square.
- Sign in to Square or create a new Square account, choose the business you want to connect, and authorize the requested access.
- After Square redirects you to DevDeck, choose the Square Location this project will use, then select Continue. If the account has only one active Location, DevDeck may select it automatically.
- Confirm that the connection card shows Square as connected and displays the selected Location.
The selected Location is used for this project's catalog and inventory. If authorization is complete but a Location has not been selected, select Connect again to reopen the Location selector.
Connecting does not import existing products
Square Connect does not automatically copy a project-owned catalog to Square. If the project already has products, use Review catalog on the Square connection card to preview the product and variation counts, then explicitly confirm the import.
Find catalog and inventory management after connecting
After Square is connected, open the Manage section in the left sidebar of Project Studio. The following commerce entries are available:
- Products — opens the connected Square Item Library.
- Inventory — opens Square inventory management.
These entries open the relevant Square Dashboard page in a new browser tab. The Square connection card in Configure → Connections also opens the connected Square Dashboard.
Manage commerce with AI Builder
You can also manage the connected Square catalog and inventory by chatting with AI Builder. Describe the result you want in everyday language; AI Builder can look up products, variations, categories, and inventory for the project's selected Location, then perform supported changes.
For example:
- “Show me the variations and current inventory for the Classic T-shirt.”
- “Create a Ceramic Mug with a Standard variation priced at USD 19.90 and turn on inventory tracking.”
- “Change the price of the Black / Medium Classic T-shirt to USD 29.”
- “Set the inventory of the Ceramic Mug's Standard variation to 30.”
- “Make the Summer Gift Box unavailable at this Location.”
AI Builder may ask a follow-up question when a product or variation is ambiguous. Read-only searches run directly. Changes involving prices, inventory, Location availability, batches, or deletion display an approval request in the chat; review the exact action and confirm it before DevDeck changes Square data.
Manage products in Square
- In DevDeck, select Manage → Products.
- In the Square Item Library, create an item or open an existing item.
- Enter the item name, description, category, and images as needed.
- Add its variations and set a fixed price for each variation sold by the storefront.
- Make the item available at the Location connected to the DevDeck project, then save it.
DevDeck reads Square product and variation data for the connected Location. An item needs to be present at that Location and have a positive fixed price before it can be shown as available in the storefront. Checkout and orders require Stripe Connect.
Manage inventory in Square
- In DevDeck, select Manage → Inventory.
- In Square, choose the Location connected to the DevDeck project.
- Find the item variation whose stock you want to change.
- Use Square's stock adjustment or recount action, choose the appropriate reason, and enter the quantity.
- Save the adjustment.
When inventory tracking is enabled, a variation must have a known count greater than zero to be shown as available in the storefront. If inventory tracking is disabled, Square can keep the variation available without a displayed stock count.
Always check the Location
Square keeps inventory separately for each Location. Updating another Location does not change the stock used by this DevDeck project.
What is a Square Location?
A Location is the business location or sales channel that Square uses to organize commerce activity. It can represent a physical store, warehouse, mobile business, online store, or another place where a business operates. It is not limited to a street address.
Square creates a main Location when a new business account is registered. A business can add more Locations later. Product availability, inventory counts, and prices can differ between Locations, so DevDeck connects each project to one active Location and uses that Location's catalog and inventory data.
To view Locations in Square Dashboard, open Settings → Account & Settings → Business information → Locations. The exact menu wording may vary slightly by country or Square Dashboard version. You can review each Location's name, status, and address there.
When DevDeck asks you to choose a Location, select the one whose catalog and inventory should be used by the project's storefront. The selector shows the Location name and address when available.
Disconnect Square
To remove the connection, open Configure → Connections and disconnect Square. Disconnecting disables the project's Square access, but does not delete products or inventory from Square.
